AI (Artificial Intelligence) vs. HI (Human Interaction)

So we are hearing a lot of “buzz” these days about Artificial Intelligence and how it is going to affect our career as a web development firm.

First, let’s define Artificial Intelligence.

ar·ti·fi·cial in·tel·li·gence

The theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages.

Sounds like a little science fiction right? Well, it’s not, and it is coming to a world near you.

Robots are being built as I write this blog and we’ve certainly advanced in our technology capabilities by leaps and bounds.

While modern robots can now replicate the movements and actions of humans, the next challenge will lie in teaching these man-made robots to think for themselves and adapt and react to ever-changing environments.

So how will that affect our field of web development and business in general? It will diminish the human relationship between a designer and their client. Face it, this robot won’t be excited for you and your goals for your business. The websites will be content based. You say that’s a good thing because Content IS Key (we wrote a previous blog about this here).

Content is key but if you are not having a discussion with your developer and you are now relying on a robot to build your site around your spoken content. Guess what? Your competitors will have the SAME goals. They will have the same content. What will make your website unique if these robots can’t feel or empathize with your business goals?

There will be a lot of “templates” out there all resembling the same layout with similar content.

The one thing that robots will NEVER be able to replace, is Human Interaction. We need it. We have to have it. We are mammals, after all, seeking the warm and fuzzy feelings that come along with building “relationships”.

We are certain that this new technology will be here before we know it and we are not worried.

We will always be the leaders in business and client relationships. We will always provide a partnership. We’re in it with you. We ARE YOUR TEAM.

With that said, keep your eyes open for businesses to sell you the “easy” way. In the long run, it won’t be easy and you may find yourself talking to yourself.

We were meant to fellowship with others and have communication. We learn from one another. We are unique individuals and your websites will reflect your business uniqueness when a human being is your developer.

When it comes to taking advantage of this modern technology, I think I'll stick to using my robotic vacuum, The Rhumba... Now, I like that invention!
